With PayPal, there is more than just the convenience of buying goods with a username and password. After card sorting exercises and testing design prototypes with PayPal users, we created a single site that allows new and existing users to quickly view, enroll, manage and learn about all of PayPal’s benefits.
Problem
I just signed up for PayPal but what are the benefits?
Old calls-to-action were scattered throughout PayPal.com, never providing a holistic view of the available benefits.

A single site that allows new and existing users to quickly view, enroll, manage and learn about PayPal’s benefits.
Sketch and initial concept.
Research
Users completed card sorting exercises to help categorize PayPal’s benefits and interacted with high-fidelity prototypes for design feedback.
Mobile screens used in the interactive prototype.
Findings
“This doesn’t exist already?”
“It feels like a settings page.”
“Looks great, but how do I use PayPal?”
Users put cards into 3 categories: Protection, Rewards, Convenience
Final design
Based on feedback, general education around PayPal was added, along with user-validated bucketing of PayPal’s benefits.
Outcome
What does success look like?
Increased transactions per active user
Increased activation rate
Increased enrollment in value-added services
Benefits activation screens.
